Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Serves 4, with leftovers

Saute onion and garlic in olive oil until translucent. Add burger and brown.

Add tomatoes, paste, and spices. Turn heat down, cover sauce and simmer 1 ½ hours. Add mushrooms and liquid after 1 hour.

Serve sauce over cooked pasta.

Mom usually made twice this quantity for the 8 of us. I still make that much and freeze half for the future.
I usually "update" this by replacing the canned mushrooms with some fresh mushrooms cooked with the onions and garlic, and by using very lean meat to minimize the fat. I sometimes substitute Italian sausage for half the meat.
