Nancy Elizabeth Foster

Nancy Elizabeth Foster was born on 12 Sep 1838 in Campbell Co., Virginia, died on 22 Jan 1907 in Campbell Co., Virginia at age 68, and was buried in Naruna, Campbell Co., Virginia. He may have married first Martha Moore, daughter of Mark More and Martha Matthews, on 21 Sep 1829 in Campbell Co., Virginia. She was born about 1812 in Campbell Co., Virginia and died about 1840 in Campbell Co., Va. at about age 28. If she existed they probably had three children.

He married second Lucy Ann Moore, daughter of Mark More and Martha Matthews, before 1838. She was born in 1809 in Campbell Co., Va. and died about 1861 in Campbell Co., Va. age about 52. They had 5 children.

Washington married third Mary Ann Jordan on 11 Nov 1867 in Campbell Co., Virginia, United States.

Martha More granted permission for her daughter to marry, and the daughter is named Martha on the bond. However, when Mark More wrote his will, he did not name a daughter Martha, only his daughter Lucy. I seems possible the name on the bond was incorrect, and he married Lucy in 1829. However, the lack of a marriage record for Washington and Lucy could also be explained by the illegality of marriage between a man and his deceased wife's sister by Virginia law, which could have led to a marriage elsewhere.
